Deciding between champagnes as a gift, would love to get some opinions

So I am planning on gifting some really close family friends of mine a champagne and I'm having a tough time deciding between a dom 2008 and a Piper-Heidsieck 2002 vintage. What would you guys suggest between the two? If you guys have any other suggestions of something in the $200 price range, would love to hear them as well

Need Italian wine recommendation – Athan Zafirov Wine Blog

Need Italian wine recommendation

Hey! I’m currently studying in Italy and I’m looking to get my dad a bottle of nice Italian wine to give him for Christmas when I go back to Portugal. He likes mostly ripe white (I think that’s how you say it), but I’m open to other suggestions. My budget is around the 15€ mark (not much, I know)

Thank you!

Coravin vs Decanting wine – Athan Zafirov Wine Blog

Coravin vs Decanting wine

Hello,

I´m considering getting a Coravin, so I don´t have to open the whole bottle. I´ve started collecting wine about 7-8 years ago. Some bottles getting the right age about now, others got another 2-5-15-50 years in them.
Anyhow, usually I like to decant my wine. First of all, to get rid of any deposit. Second, I like how they open up. For me, they do taste better.

So what about Coravin? When you pour via the needle, are you able to somehow get rid of deposits? Let it stand a day or so, before pouring? Or does deposit comes through the needle?

Found in the Charleston harbor. I’ve been told it is a glass seal from a wine bottle. Apparently one of the family crests is the Teñet family of Merignac, France. I’m not sure about the other but I’d like to know everything I can about this piece and if it’s worth some money. – Athan Zafirov Wine Blog

Had a little period of Musar purchasing a month or two ago, it’s so tasty but goddamn difficult to get out of the bottle sometimes. I think this was 2010, but of 6 vintages purchased we had a 50% intact cork success rate. – Athan Zafirov Wine Blog

Are any countries or regions known for making particularly good corks? Or for that matter, bad ones? – Athan Zafirov Wine Blog

Are any countries or regions known for making particularly good corks? Or for that matter, bad ones?

Just curious if any countries in particular have a better quality of cork, or if some countries make poor quality corks?
